Quebec police watchdog investigating after fatal shooting on Montreal's Nuns' Island

The manwas shot after he pointed what looked likehandgun at the police officer who confronted him, Quebec's police watchdog said. The man was rushed to hospital and died of his injuries.

The man was shot by police around 12:30 p.m. after a 911 call came in about a man possibly carrying a handgun

Quebec's police watchdog has launchedan investigation after a man was killed by Montreal police on Nuns'Island Saturday afternoon.

Police shot the man just after 12:30 p.m. following a 911 call about someone walking aroundwith a handgun, theBureau des enqutes indpendantes(BEI) said in a statement laterin the afternoon.

The officer who responded to the call shot the man after he pointed what looked like ahandgun in the direction of the responding police officer.

The mandied soon after he was rushed to hospital,the watchdogsaid.

Five investigators are now looking into the incident. The police watchdog is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
