Ceremonies to mark Remembrance Day were held across Quebec on Monday.

In Montreal, the Quebec ProvincialCommandof the Royal Canadian Legion heldits annual ceremony at the cenotaph in Place du Canada, with members of the public filing in as of 10:30 a.m. The ceremony beganat 11 a.m. with two minutes of silence followed by a 21-gun salute.

In Quebec City, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 260 held its annual event at the Croix du Sacrificeat the entrance to the Plains of Abraham near the National Assembly.

In Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, a municipality located just north of Quebec City, the Valcartier elementary schoolheld its own ceremony. The school holds the ceremony at the local community centre with students, parents and members of the community in attendance.

Jayne Doddrige, the school's community development agent, says the school has been holding its ceremony there for about five years.

Many of the students in the school have parents in the Canadian Armed Forces who are stationed at the nearby Valcartier military base. The students take an active role in the ceremony, with some of them reading poems.

"I think because we have a lot of military families at our school, the community is here to support," Doddrige said.

"Thechildren live it differently than the parents do. Sometimes it's hard for a child when mom or dad's gone for three to six months or longer sometimes. So to have them as school ambassadors and then do some type of presentation for their parents, I think it gives the children a really, really big sense of belonging to a community and shows how proud they are of their parents."
