Thousands without power as post-tropical storm moves through Quebec

Heavy rain battered the province overnight as post-tropical storm Isaias crossed into Quebec, leaving tens of thousands of Quebecers without power.

As of Wednesday morning, about 46,000 Hydro-Qubec customers were still in the dark, most in the Quebec City region.

The storm touched down in North Carolina late Monday and the Canadian Hurricane Centre says it is expected to travel eastward toNew Brunswick today.

The rain has eased up for much of the province, but a rainfall warning is still in effect forChibougamau, where up to 25 mm of rain is expected to fall today.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jean-Philippe Bginsaid people living in the affected regions should ensure their drains are cleared and consider avoiding driving while rainfall remains heavy.
