After a gruelling trial that lasted more than 30 days,a juryconvicted Richard Bain earlier this week of second-degree murder and several counts of attempted murder.

Bainwas found guilty in connection with the shooting outside the Parti Qubcois' 2012election night rally. Then leader Pauline Marois was giving a victory speech to supporters at the Metropolis at the time, and was rushed from the stage by her bodyguards.

As Bainwas led away in handcuffs that night, he could be heard shouting "The English are waking up."

The guiltyverdict, handed down Tuesday, sent ripples through Quebec's political class, who wondered openlyabout Bain's motivations.
