Secular 'values' charter hearings move into 2nd week

The public hearings on Quebec's proposed secular charter continue today.

The public hearings on Quebec's proposed secular charter have moved into theirsecond week.

The day started with a presentation from pro-charter advocateRakia Fourati, who is a member of lesJanettes. Thegroup was founded by the influential author, radio and TV personality, Janette Bertrand.

Fourati wasfollowed by the Quebec secular movement. The movement was in the news last week after the Supreme Court of Canada agreed to hear its challenge against officials having the right to recite a prayer at Saguenaycity council meetings.

The morning session wrapped upwith the Alliance of cultural communities for equality in health and social services.

Two more groups advocating secularism and four private citizens were scheduled for the afternoon and early evening.
