Montreal's Southwest borough campaign takes aim at dog doo-doo

The giant pink arrows shaming citizens who leave their garbage out are back in Montreal's Southwest borough, and this summer, the emphasis is on dog poo that's left behind.

The giant pink arrows shaming citizens who leave their garbage out are back in Montreal's Southwest borough, and this summer, the emphasis is on dog poo that's left behind.

This is the second year the borough has mountedan awareness campaign which involves placing stickers or an arrow with the message 'your garbage is bothering me' by garbage that is on public property outside of normal pick-up times.

"The campaign basically is to help citizens find that feeling of respect to their neighbours," said Southwest borough city councillorCraigSauv.

"The question of putting your garbage out too early or not picking up after your dog, that's really about your neighbour's quality of life."

This year, the borough will also be handing out dog poop bags and little flags that tell people to pick up after their pets.

"We have had a lot of complaints,"Sauv said.

"You see little bags sometimes on corners. They pick up after the dog but they leave the poop bag right on the corner. That's not really nice for people in the neighbourhood."
