SPCA investigating possible cat abuse in Pierrefonds-Roxboro

The Montreal SPCA is investigating a possible case ofabuse towards domestic cats in Pierrefonds-Roxboro after receiving a complaint from a resident.

The animal protection grouphas put up posters in a neighbourhood of the borough, asking people with information to come forward and warning that harming or poisoning pets is a crime.

"We have no concrete leads, but we take all complaints seriously and want to be proactive," said Anita Kapuscinska of the SPCA.

The group won't disclose any more details about the type of abuse, whomade the complaintand in what neighbourhood.

However, Kapuscinska underscoredthe illegality of poisoning animals.

"Poisoning cats is not a good way to control overpopulation, if that's what's causing people to do this," she said.

"There are other proactive and ethical ways of controlling cat populations, like trap-neuter-release programs. We encourage municipalities to adopt these programs with the shelters they work with."
