St-Jacques Street closure presents challenge for commuters

About 21,000 motorists who use the St-Jacques Street overpass in NDG will have to figure out a new route for their commute this morning.

Section between Girouard and Dcarie scheduled to close until Fall 2017

Drivers who use the St-Jacques Street overpass in NDG will have to figure out a new route for their commute this morning.

The St-Jacques overpass will be closed betweenGirouardAvenue andDcarieBoulevard in both directions until 2017, affecting about 21,000 motorists who use the route every day.

Local traffic and pedestrians will still be allowed on part of St-Jacques Street, until the overpass is demolished, starting in 2016.
The overpassclosed on Friday at midnight for a two-year- periodso it can be dismantled and rebuilt as part of the reconstruction of the Turcot interchange.

The closures will affect drivers using the St. Jacques exit of the Ville-Marie expressway, as well as those travelling east along St-Jacques.

Drivers will be forced to detour ontoDcarieBoulevard,Upper-LachineRoad andGirouardAvenue.

Pedestrians will still be able to use all of St. Jacques until the end of this year.

The work had been originally scheduled to begin last July.
