An RCMPSret du Qubec joint task force that investigates art thefts discovered the untitled painting by the Quebec artist this week.

A fine Riopelle is a very marketable work of art and can get a significant price, said Montreal art dealer Alan Klinkhoff.

The late Riopelle is said to have painted the abstract work in 1958 in Paris. His daughter,Yseult, told CBC News that she was happy to see her fathers work recovered.

This painting isnt the first Riopelle to be stolen. In 2010, some lithographs that had been stolen between 1999 and 2004 were sold on website Kijiji.

In 2011, two statues he made in 1963 were stolen from Riopelles Esterel, Que., workshop and subsequently found broken into two pieces.
