Montreal's downtown sinkhole should be repaired by Saturday, two weeks after the crater appeared and caused a partial closure of Sherbrooke Street West.

The four metre square sinkhole opened up in between McGill College Avenue and University Street on May 22, just hours after a massive student protest marched over the stretch of road.

The collapse was attributed to problems with a century-old water main under the roadway.

The street will be reopened Saturday afternoon, which, according to the city, is twoweeks ahead of schedule.

The total cost for the emergencyfix was $320,000. According to a news release from the city, that is a fraction of thetraditional cost becauseof a new technique used to make the repairs.
