Two men charged in separate hit-and-run incidents

A 26-year-old man from Sherbrooke, Que., appeared in court today and was charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that took place Saturday morning.

Two women were struck by a car driving on Prospect Street in Sherbrooke, Que. at about 3 a.m on Saturday.

Roxanne Bouffard-Cyr, 19, was killed, and her 20-year-old friend, Bohmie Drouin, suffered serious injuries. She is in hospital, and police said she is expected to survive.

Martin Nadeau was arrested Sunday night at his home.

He was charged with hit-and-run causing death, hit-and-run causing injuries, impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing injuries and violating probation conditions.

Nadeau is known to police and knows the owner of the car that was involved in the incident.

On Sunday, police met with the vehicle's owner but released him soon after.

According to Sherbrooke Const. Ren Dubreuil, investigators concluded the owner was not involved in the incident and would not be charged.

Nadeau is also charged in another impaired driving case that dates back to March 2012.

He was scheduled to appear in court in two months to answer to those charges.

Terrebonne man faces charges

Yan Robitaille-Godin, 32, appeared at the Saint-Jrme courthouse to answer to charges of dangerous driving causing death, hit-and-run causing death, impaired driving causing death, driving with a suspended license and refusing to provide a sample.

The charges stem from a hit-and-run incident that took place Sunday at about 5 p.m. in Terrebonne, north of Montreal.

His next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.

According to Terrebonne police, a van hit a woman who was walking on a bike path along des Seigneurs Boulevard.

Marie-Claude Grenon, 53, was taken to hospital where she was declared dead.

The driver did not stop, but police were able to track down the suspect soon after.

Terrebonne police are also looking for a witness who reported a dangerous driver at the intersection of des Seigneurs Boulevard and d'Argenson Street, shortly before the incident.
