Teen arrested after gunshot outside Laval high school

A 17-year-old youth fired a gun into the air in Laval, after a fight broke out between young people outside the Pavillon Latour of Cur-Antoine-Labelle high school.

Police say 17-year-old suspect was questioned overnight and there could be more arrests

Laval police have arrested a 17-year-old maleafter a shot was fired outside a school in the Sainte-Rose districtyesterday afternoon.

It happened as people were leaving classat the Pavillon Latour of Cur-Antoine-Labellehighschool.

Police say a carwith several young people pulled up in the parking lot of the schooland two teensgot out of the vehicle.

According to Stphanie Beshara, a spokesperson for Laval police, a fight broke out between the people who had left the vehicle and a couple of students exiting the school.

Onethe students was injured and when a friend tried to come to his defence, one of the suspectsfired a gun into the air. No one was hit.

The victim was transported to hospital after being injured in the fight.His life isn't in danger.

All of the people involved in the fight were 17 years old.

Police saythe incident was based on an existing conflict.

"Was it going on between the two of them or somebody that they knew and they sent them, it's hard to explain," Besharasaid.

"You can send somebody to go talk to somebody. Maybe they didn't know each other, but they were sent by somebody else."

Police say there were several witnesses who gave a description of the suspects'vehicle and licence plate number.

They later tracked down the vehicle in Laval's Sainte-Dorothe neighbourhood, and the suspect was questioned overnight. He was arrested for assault and attempted kidnapping.

Police say there could still be more arrests.
