Collapsed crane in Montreal leaves 1 dead, 1 injured
Police said the two victims were washing windows on a building when the crane fell
A man was killedand his son seriously injured when the boom crane on a flatbedtrucktipped overin downtown Montreal onSunday morning.
Police and firefighters were deployed to the scene in front of a UQAMpavilion onSt.Denis Street, near Ren-LvesqueBoulevard.
Montreal police said the two victims were washing windows on an eight-storeybuildingwhen the crane collapsed at around 10:30 a.m.
One victim, a 53,year-old man, died instantly.The second, who police confirmed was his son,was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Montreal police also said threewitnesses have been treated for shock. The Quebec workplace health and safety board said the two of them are also related to the two men on the platform.
Traffic has beenblocked off in thearea around the corner of St. Denis Street and Ren-Lvesque.
Cranes arrived on the scene to remove the one that fell.
The health and safety board said it will likely take months to report on the exact cause of the incident.
