Quebecs transportation authorities insist the Turcot Interchange is safe, despite inspection reports released Friday detailing cracks and corrosion throughout its 35 structures.

Transport Minister Pierre Moreau said the Turcot is the most closely monitored structure in Canada.

Engineers are on call for repairs 24 hours a day.

Those repairs are now done on an as-needed basis, and will continue to be addressed that way until the new interchange is completed in 2018.

Those repairs will cost $254 million between 2011 and 2018.

It will also mean traffic trouble on the interchange as lanes are reduced or closed for maintenance and fixes.

The Quebec government has unveiled its$3-billion planfor rebuilding the Turcot in 2010.
