Two more deaths linked to swine flu in Quebec

Quebec public health officials said Tuesday two more people have died after contracting swine flu, bringing the death toll from the virus to six in the province, with nearly 1,000 infected.

Quebec public health officials said Tuesday two more people have died after contracting swine flu, bringing the death toll from the virus to six in the province, with nearly 1,000 infected.

The latest victimswere a man and a woman who were both between 30 and 50 years of age and lived in the Montreal area.

While swine flu, also known as H1N1-A virus, was a factor in the two deaths, each of the victims had other serious health problems, said Horatio Arruda who is with Quebec's public health department.

"Not really only because of this disease. They had underlying medical conditions that could explain it, but they had been diagnosed with H1N1. So, they are counted."

The total number of H1N1 cases in Quebec now stands at 967, including 134 who required hospitalization.
