At least six classes were cancelled yesterday at UQAM as student protesters continue fighting against the provincial government's cost-cutting measures.

The university called the police on Wednesday morning as rowdy protesters caused multiple disturbances.

Students have been interrupting classes for at least the past two days.

Andr Lamoureux was teaching his political science class on Tuesday when he was interrupted about an hour into the session.

He told CBCDaybreakon Wednesday thatabout 30 students burst into the classroom, chanting, screaming and turning off the lights.

Lamoureux said he was most upset when some protesters moved to the front of the class and erased all the work he'd done on the classroom's whiteboard.

He said his students were intimidated by the scene that transpired in front of them.

"They were a little bit scared about the situation," he said, adding that one student was near tears.

After being bombarded, he said he had no choice but to cancel the class.

He said he did call the security desk, whichsent one guard. Lamoureux said the guard took notes and said she would speak with the school's administration, but couldn't restore peace in the classroom.

"After that, she went away, but the students were still in the back of the class," Lamoureux said.

he said teaching in the middle of the student strikes has been a challenge. He said he has no choice but to come to work and all he can do is manage the best he can.
