Utility pole in middle of Quebec highway causes headaches
Construction crews paved road around pole instead of removing it months ago
Construction crews were working today to remove a utility pole in the middle of a highwaythat has causedheadaches for drivers on a provincial highway east of Montreal.
Transport Quebec construction crews repaved a section of Route 251 two months ago, but instead of removing the utility pole backthen, they paved aroundit.
The pole was left in the middle of a stretch of highway near Johnville in Quebec's Eastern Townships.
During construction, signage was posted to alert drivers to the obstacle, but the signs have not been there fora week.
Cookshire-Eaton Coun. Yvon Roy says he has been asking the province to remove the pole for months, and that it is dangerous.
"You have to be very careful."
Roysaid he hopesthe poleisremoved before anyone is hurt.
Transport Quebec will be investigating the matter to ensureit does not happen again.
