A small group of protesters gathered outside the office of the premier on Monday morning, asking for universal access to the Metro station near the MUHCsuperhospital.

RIght now, Vendme Metro only has one entrance, and it's not accessible for people with mobility issues.

The protesters, whorepresented at least nine organizations, dropped off a petition with more than 2,000 signatures, asking the province to commit to planning to build a second, accessible entrance at Vendme.

The petition demands that a timetable for the construction of a second entrance to theVendme Metro station be provided quickly.

"Without a second entrance, it will be an obstacle course, said Marie-Josee Dupuis, spokeswoman for the Montreal SeniorsSteering Committee. "You have to climb many steep steps followed by a long walk outside."

She said the province is skirting committing to building a permanent solution. Right now, the Metro is being updated, but there's no plan to build a new entrance, despite plans to open the new superhospitalnext to the station in April.

The STM declined a request to be interviewed.
