Vigil held in solidarity with sexual assault complainants at Laval University

A vigil in solidarity with the complainants was held outside the Alphonse-Marie-Parent residence.

About 500 people gathered at Laval University on Wednesday eveningto support the victims ofalleged sexual crimes in theAlphonse-Marie-Parent residence.

Quebec City police say 15 complainants have come forward so farabout a series ofincidents they allegetook place overnight Friday.

The event was organized by political science professorThierry Giasson.

During the vigil, some students booed university rector Denis Brire and interrupted several times when he took the stage to speak.

Senior management of the university hasfaced criticismfor itsdelay in alerting the community about the incidents.

The complaints involve at least one suspect, described as a man in his 20s, andrangefrom sexual touching toassault.
