Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in death of woman in Cte Saint-Luc

A 35-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of his partner in Cte Saint-Luc overnight.

Montreal police responded to a 911 call on Monday just before midnight at an apartment building on Adalbert Avenue near the corner of Earle Road.

Officers said the victim,Zoleikha Bakhtiar, 36, was discovered with upper-body injuries caused by a sharp object.

According to Urgences-Sant, officers found children inside the apartment when they arrived.

Her partner, Ariobarzan Bakhtiar, has been charged with second-degree murder and made his first court appearance by video Tuesday afternoon.

He will remain detained and was ordered not to communicate with the children who were present in the residence at the time. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 5.

This is the ninth homicide victim on the island of Montreal this year.

Zoleikha Bakhtiar is the 11th woman known to have been killed in Quebec in 2021.
