Construction of a third liquefied natural gas storage tank at Canaport in Saint John will provide another year of work for hundreds of New Brunswickers.

The Repsol-Irving partnership announced Thursday morning it would proceed with the plan for the LNG regasification plant and receiving terminal. The tank had already received approval as an option in the originaldesign for the plant.

Repsol president Phil Ribbeck said the extra tank will provide greater assurance of meeting customers' needs on both the supply and market sides.

The terminal is scheduled to start operating in late 2008.
