Bay Ferries cancels Fundy Rose crossings for 3 days

Bay Ferries Limited has cancelled all Fundy Rose sailings between Saint John, N.B., and Digby, N.S.,until at least Tuesdaydue to problems with a loading ramp.

Ramp problems to blame, company says

Bay Ferries Limited has cancelled all Fundy Rose sailings between Saint John, N.B., and Digby, N.S.,until at least Tuesdaydue to mechanical issues.

The company originally cancelledfour Saturday crossingson Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, the company announced that repairs that includeweldingwould be needed before the vessel could go back into service.

The remaining cancelled departures are from Saint John at 8a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, as well as from Digbyat11a.m. and 5:30 on thesame days.

Mark Wilson, senior vice-president of Bay Ferries, said issues are only impacting the Fundy Rose. He said the main problem is with aloading ramp.

One of the ramp's hydraulic operating cylinders needs repairs and the bow landing door ramp isinoperable, the afternoon announcement later confirmed.

Passengers with bookings on thecancelled crossings will be refunded with an attempt to rebook, said Wilson.

"We realize it's peak season and apologize for any inconvenience to our customers," Wilson said. "But we're working as fast as we can to rectify this and to get back sailing as soon as we can."
