Fredericton police Const. Cherie Campbell's arbitration hearing before the New Brunswick Police Commission was adjourned for a second time on Thursday due to health reasons.

Campbell was expected to testify in her own defence. However, her lawyer, T.J. Burke told arbitrator Cedric Haines that Campbell is under medical care for issues that have not resolved themselves and requested an adjournment until Dec. 16.

Burke said Campbell is not able to concentrate enough to testify at this point.

Haines granted the adjournment and scheduled the hearing to continue on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

Fredericton Police Chief Leanne Fitch, who filed the complaint against Campbell with the commission, said they were presented with enough medical evidence to agree to the adjournment.

Campbell is charged withviolatingthe police code of conduct by shoplifting, by attempting to obtain favourable treatment from another police officer, and by asking another police officer to try and keep news about her shoplifting arrest from Fitch.

The arbitration hearing will determine what, if any, discipline Campbell might face stemming from her arrest for shoplifting in Houlton, Me., in December 2014.

Campbell's trial for shoplifting in Maine resulted in a hung jury. The matter ended up being settled out of court without a finding of guilt or innocence.

Burkesaid he expects to call two witnesses besides Campbell to testify in her defence.

The hearing began Monday. Wednesday's proceedings were also adjourned because of Campbell'shealth issue.
