One of the two smokestacks from NB Power's now-closed Dalhousie generating station was demolished on Thursday morning.

The smokestacks were supposed to come down on Aug. 16, but the demolition attempt failed and the stacks remained standing.

This is how the Dalhousie generation station looked while it was operational.
One of the stacks and the second boiler were demolished at 8:30 a.m.

NB Power says the second stack is scheduledto come down a few hours later after vibration testing.

The smokestacks have loomed over the town for 40 years, but the power plant was taken out of service three years ago.

The two smokestacks are to be demolished as part of the decommissioning process.
