Back to School: New Brunswick's education system by the numbers

If you've ever wondered exactly how many school buses there are or how many teachers to students there are, CBC News has the numbers.

Students are returning to the classroom on Tuesday and here are just a few education statistics

It's back to school time, the most wonderful time of the year for some and for others, it's a reminder they need to stock up on pens and notebooks.

To help keep things in perspective on this first day of classes, here are some statistics from around the province on schools, teachers and buses.

And pay attention, there could be a test later.

  • 97,912 students attend New Brunswick schools
  • 7,173 teachers are in the province
  • There are 2,489 educational assistants
  • Students attend school 185 days of the year
  • For teachers, it's 195 days of the year
  • There are eightProfessional Developmentdays
  • There are 307 schools in the province
  • There are 1,254 school buses including spares
  • 85,000 students use the school buses daily
  • The oldest school building is RiversideConsolidated School which opened in 1905
  • There are twonew schools this year
    • cole Champlain in Moncton
    • Max Aitken School in Miramichi
  • The school with the most students is Fredericton High School with 1,881 students
  • The school with the fewest numberof students was White Head Elementary School with 10 students
  • There were 688 dropouts last year
  • The provincial cost of public education is $1,227,652,380
