George Piers is retiring after 30 years of serving meals at Fredericton's Community Kitchen.

Piers founded the organization and has provided tens of thousands of meals in the last three decades.

He was a founder of the kitchen when it started in 1982 as a temporary measure. Piers said what he's most proud of is the impact the community kitchen had on many of his clients.

"My major accomplishment has been working with the individuals that come in here. Seeing them get off of their drugs, getting them on rehabilitation programs, seeing them out in the work force where they are now successful and productive citizens," he said.

Piers said the real success of the Fredericton Community Kitchen has been its volunteers who have kept to operation going and growing over the past three decades.
