9 soldiers released from medical care after training accident at Gagetown

Four soldiers sufferedseriousinjuries following a vehicle accident at the 5thCanadianDivision Support Base Gagetown.

Accordingto public affairs officerCapt.EvelynLemire, nine soldierswere injured in total during a trainingexercise at around 10:30 a.m.They are members of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment.

"They really hit an embankment," saidLemire. "It was in a LAV 6.0, a light-armouredvehicleand they were conducting routine training at the time."

"It was not a rollover," she said.

The four soldiers with serious injuries were transported to the Dr.EverettChalmers Hospital in Fredericton.

The five other soldiersinvolvedwere transported to the42ndhealth servicescentreon base. They were treated for minor injuries.

As of 4:30 p.m.,Lemiresaidall nine soldiers involved had been released.

"An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of theincident," said Lemire.
