Fredericton goaltender Jake Allen pulled off a win on Wednesday night during his first start in the National Hockey League.

Allen made 15 saves, guiding the Blues to a 4-3 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings.

Ken Hitchcock, the head coach of the St. Louis Blues, told reporters he was happy with the way Allen and his teammates bounced back after being down 2-0 early in the game.

St. Louis forward Alexander Steen put away a rebound less than a minute into overtime to win the game.

Wednesday nights game was Allen's second NHL appearance.

The Blues recalled Allen from Peoria on Tuesday. Allen has appeared in 31 games for the Peoria Rivermen, posting 12 wins, 16 losses and a 2.94 goals against average.

A starting spot opened up for Allen because Jaroslav Halak missed his fifth straight game on Wednesday with a groin strain.

Hitchcock said Halak is listed as day-to-day.
