Fredericton lands new $850K water park

A new water park will replace the oldwading pool at Fredericton's Wilmot Park next year.

Coun. Kate Rogers says construction will begin at the end of the summer and the new park is expected to be open by August 2016.

The project is expected to cost $850,000, she said.

Students at local elementary schools helped develop the design.

"It will have water cannons, water mushrooms, two small wading pools and a bucket that drops water every minute," she said.

"There will also be washrooms on site and more parent-friendly space."

The councilor said there will lots of sitting room in both the sun and shade.

The current wading pool was built in 1967 as a centennial project by thelocal Jewish community.

Rogers says the pipes underneath the pool were leaking so much last summer, it wasdifficult to maintain.
