Fredericton drivers gird for commuting gridlock at key intersection

Fredericton drivers will need to add some extra time to their commutes starting today as work begins on the city's busiest intersection.

The work to replace the Regent Street overpass is part of a $4.8-million infrastructure project, which will start today at 9 a.m.

The biggest disruptions will be felt by drivers wanting to travel north-south on Regent Street above the highway, but the reduction of lanes on Route 8 and on Regent Street between Priestman and Prospect streets will likely further snarl up traffic.

About 47,000 vehicles pass through the busy Regent-Prospect intersection daily, according to the city.
