Grand Manan Adventure sails again

The new Grand Manan ferry has returned to its regular run after being docked for three days with electrical problems.

The new Grand Manan ferry has returned to its regular run.

Mechanics repaired the $68 million Grand Manan Adventure Wednesday afternoon, and completed sea trials in time for the last crossing of the day to the island at 9 p.m.

Murray Rider, general manager of Coastal Transport, the company that runs the ferry service, is relieved.

"It's very important," he said. "There is a big investment in that operation and right now, it's our pride of our fleet. We want to offer that to the people of Grand Manan, as well as the tourists."

The new ferry had been tied up in Blacks Harbour since Aug. 15 when the bow thrusters failed, just four days after its maiden voyage.

Crews confirmed there was an electrical problem with the equipment used for docking.
