Man found dead was sought in Fredericton professor's killing

Police in New Brunswick have confirmedthat a body recoveredSaturday from a vehicle in Moncton was that of a man wanted in the slayingof a St. Thomas University professor.

Investigators said foul play is not suspected in the death of 27-year-old Nicholas Wade Baker and he is considered the only suspect linked to the killing of Prof. John McKendy.

The 60-year-oldprofessor's body was discovered in his Douglas, N.B., home early Friday.

Just beforethe discovery of Baker's body in a hotel parking lot, the Mounties hadissued a Canada-wide warrant for Baker that said he was wanted on afirst-degree murder charge inMcKendy's death.

Police saidBaker had no fixed address, but had family in South Carolina.

Though police have notcommented on family ties,published reports say Baker was married to McKendy's daughter. A woman was taken to hospital Friday with non-life-threatening injuries, but no details were released.

An RCMP spokesman would not give details onhow either man died. McKendy wasa sociology professor at the Fredericton university.
