Medic's funeral to be held at CFB Gagetown

A Canadian army medic, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this month, will receive a military funeral service at the base near his hometown of Fredericton.

A Canadian army medic, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this month, will receive a military funeral service at the base near his hometown of Fredericton.

Pte. Colin Wilmot, 24, was killed by an explosive device on July 5 while on a night patrol in the volatile Panjwaii district.

His funeral service will be heldWednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's Chapel on Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.

A 2002 graduate of Fredericton High School,Wilmot came from a family with a long history of military service.

Family, friends and colleagues say Wilmot was a happy and helpful person, and a dedicated medic.

He was the 87th Canadian soldier to die during the Afghanistan mission.
