Middle River ice jams cause Bathurst localized flooding

Warmer temperatures are expected on Saturday and River Watch 2015 has issued a warning for people living in the Bathurst area to prepare for some flooding.

The province says water levels along the St. John River system are expected to remain stable and even see some decreases over the next 48 hours.

The Jemseg River is still above flood stage and is expected to stay at that level through the weekend.

Ice movement has also been detected on the Restigouche River.

One area River Watch 2015 is keeping an eye on is the Middle River in Bathurst. Officialssay ice jams have formed causing some localized flooding and it could last the weekend.

The province warns a change in weather conditions could lead to localized flooding in areas where drainage systems are blocked.

According to Environment Canada, the forecast in northern New Brunswick is calling for a mix of sun and cloud with a chance of showers in the afternoon and a high near 16 C.
