Moncton Mountie to stand trial on impaired driving charge

An RCMP officer in Monctonis to stand trial on impaired driving charges in December.

Sgt. Ronald Cleveland is charged with operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

In a court appearance on Friday, a trial date of Dec. 8was set.

Provincial court judge Anne Dugas-Horsman pointed out the date was at the request of the defence.

Horsman noted there are available dates for the one-day trial in July, August, September, October and November.

However, Wendell Maxwell, the defence lawyer, said his first available date is Nov. 26, but an RCMP witness is not available on that date, so the trial was set for Dec. 8.

The charges relate to an incident in Dieppe on March 21, 2014. The charges were laid in May 2014.
