Windows broken on at least 17 vehicles so far this week

Police in Moncton say there's a outbreak of of smash-and-grab thefts from vehicles after more than 17 vehiclewindows were broken on Sunday and Monday.

Codiac Sgt. Robert Landers says the incidents happened primarily overnight along Magellan Drive and McKay Avenue.

Landerssays thefts from vehicles in the city aren't rare, but seeing so many is unusual.

"Normally one window's smashed out and then some items taken," said Landers, adding that in othercases nothing is taken from the vehicle.

"But it would be good to get out to the public not to leave anything in your vehicles that they can see in the windows. At this point, we're thinking it's the same group but it's yet to be determined. We haven't had anyintelon it yet."

Landers says anyone with information about the rash of vehicle thefts is asked to contact the RCMP.
