Murder trial set for September in killing of Sarah Kennedy

A Woodstock-area teenager is to stand trial in September on a charge of murdering an 82-year-old woman.

A Woodstock-area teenager is to stand trial in September on a charge of murdering an 82-year-old woman.

Kyle Edmund Scott, 19,appeared incourt in Woodstock Monday to set a date for the second-degree murder trial.

Ten days have been set aside to hear the case in the Court of Queen's Bench.

Scott is charged in connection with the death of 82-year--old Sarah Kennedy, whose body was foundin her Richmond Corner home on Oct. 5, 2013.

One of Kennedy neighbours called her family when it was noticed Kennedy's television had been on for days. When a family member went to check on her, Kennedy's body was discovered.

RCMP said Kennedy's vehicle was stolen from her home and Scott was driving it at the time he was arrested.

Scott has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 7 and a voir dire to deal with the admissibility of evidence is set for June 23-24.
