N.B. COVID-19 roundup: 15 new cases announced Monday

New Brunswick Public Health reported15 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, including 11 in the Fredericton region.

A confirmed case of COVID-19 has prompted a Fredericton school to take learning online

New Brunswick Public Health reported15 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, including 11 in the Fredericton region.

There are four new cases in the Moncton region (Zone 1), all between 20-29. One is a contact of a previously confirmed case and the other three are under investigation.

The other cases are as follows:

Fredericton region (Zone 3) 11 cases

  • Three people 19 and under.
  • A person between 20-29.
  • Six people between30-39.
  • A person between 70-79.

Ten of the cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and one is under investigation.

Seven patients are hospitalized, with six of those in New Brunswick. Three are in intensive care.

There are now 134 active cases in the province. Therehave been 2,144 confirmed cases in New Brunswick, 1,966 recoveries and 43 people have died from thecoronavirus.

Confirmed cases at Priestman Street Elementary School in Fredericton

Late Monday evening, it was announced there are two COVID-19 cases associated with Priestman Street Elementary School in Fredericton.

The school will be closed Tuesday and will moveto distance learning on Wednesday.All staff, students and their families must self-isolate until Thursday at 11:59 p.m. AT.

Confirmed case at Connaught Street School

New Brunswick school officials are confirming there was a positive case of COVID-19 atConnaught Street School in Fredericton.

Superintendent David McTimoney sent a letterlate Sunday night to parents and guardians of students at the school.

"We are working with public health officials to identify any students and school personnel who may have been in contact with the case," saidMcTimoney, asking households to monitor closely for symptoms for14 days.

The school,which teaches kindergartento Grade 5,will use distance learning forseveral days this week.

The letter stated that teachers will connect with families Tuesday by email or phoneto share the plan. The school's website says it has276 students.

  • Air Canada 8946from Toronto to Moncton, departed at 8:47 p.m. on May 10.

What to do if you have a symptom

People concerned they might haveCOVID-19 symptoms cantake a self-assessment test online.

Public Health says symptoms shown by people withCOVID-19 have included:

  • Fever above 38 C.

  • New cough or worsening chronic cough.

  • Sore throat.

  • Runny nose.

  • Headache.

  • New onset of fatigue, muscle pain, diarrhea, loss of sense of taste or smell.

  • Difficulty breathing.

In children, symptoms have also included purple markings on the fingers and toes.

People with one of those symptoms should:

  • Stay at home.

  • CallTele-Care 811 or their doctor.

  • Describe symptoms and travel history.

  • Follow instructions.
