Missing boater from Cape-Pel presumed drowned, RCMP say

The 59-year-old Cape-Pel man who fell off a boat in Shediac Bay on Friday night is presumed drowned, RCMP say.

The 59-year-old Cape-Pel man who fell off a boat in Shediac Bay on Friday night is presumed to have died, RCMP say.

Police boats searching for the man came up empty Sunday, said Cpl. Eric Hanson of the Shediac detachment.

He said RCMP planned to continue searching Shediac Bay and the nearby shorelineuntil early evening.The man's family has been notified, Hanson said.

Missing since Friday

Friday at approximately 11 p.m., RCMP received a report that a man had fallen from a boat in the area between Pointe-du-Chne and Caissie Cape.

Friends on the boat tried to rescue him, RCMP said.

The Coast Guard and RCMP searched Friday night and Saturday. On Sunday, the Coast Guard called off their rescue effort and turned the search over to the RCMP, who were treating it as a missing person case, Hanson said.
