New Brunswick sweeps new mayors into office in three of its largest cities

New Brunswickershit the polls en masse to elect, or re-elect, mayors, councillorsand members of their local education and health councils on Monday.

Polls closed at 8 p.m. and preliminary results are mostly online now.

There were 1,173 candidates running in local races across the province.

There werenew mayors elected inMonctonand Saint John and even a new mayor in Fredericton with Mike O'Briendefeating longtime incumbent BradWoodside.
