Seven people rescued after becoming stranded on a shoal

Seven people are safe after being rescued from a shoal off Maces Bay, N.B. Joint Task Force Atlantic says the people became stuck on the shoal as the tide was rising around noon Saturday.

Joint Task Force Atlantic says around noon Saturday thegroup of people waswalking on the beach when theybecame stuck on the shoal as the tide came in.

They called for help and a rescue effort was mounted to get them.

A Cormorant helicopter, two coast guard ships, civilian air search and rescue and the local fire department were deployed.

Before they arrived,two passing ships that were closer to the scenewere able to getthe stranded people off the shoal.

No one was injured.
