New concert loos to woo women

Making trips to the bathroom a little more pleasant for women is all part of a plan to attract more concerts to Moncton.

Making trips to the bathroom a little more pleasant for women is all part of a plan to attract more concerts to Moncton.

Moncton city council approved $325,000 on Monday night to upgrade the facilities at its Magnetic Hill concert site.

The money will be used to install modular buildings for backstage and box office needs on the site.

One of the buildings will house 30 flush toilets for women.

"Women really don't enjoy using those porta-johns," said Ian Fowler, the city's general manager of recreation. "I'm sure they'll be in high demand. It certainly won't solve all the issues, but it is a start."

The city will be working to continually add facilities at Magnetic Hill, which hosts an outdoor festival each summer, Fowler said.

Improving the site will make it easier for concert promoters to choose Moncton as a venue, he said.

The Eagles, along with John Fogerty, KT Tunstall and the Sam Roberts Band will play at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in August.
