Pink pumpkin patch on Saint John lawn goes viral

There's an unusual pumpkin patch in Deanna King's front yard on Saint John's west side. The pumpkins are pink. So far 60 have popped up, with more arriving every day.

There's an unusual pumpkin patch inDeanna King's front yard on Saint John's west side.

The pumpkins are pink.

So far 60have popped up, with more arriving every day.

King, 34, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. Her friendscame up with a colourful way to lift her spirits after a rough few weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.

Amazed bythe community's support, King sent a video to the EllenDegeneresshow. The video has been viewed more than 100,000 times.

It wasCharleneThompson'sideato ask people in the community to paint the pumpkins and dropthem on King'slawn.

"Deannais one of the strongest people I know," Thompson told CBC News.

"I'm really impressed with her attitude during her fight. She hasn't missed a beat. She hasn't missed any treatments, dinner with friends, a shower, a partyshe's courageous."

The pink movement has taken off.Strangers are now dropping painted pumpkins on King's lawn. Some are covered inrhinestonesand many havethoughtful messages.

King says she's on her way to being a survivor, and hopes her pumpkins spread the word aboutthe importance of early detection.

"It's so touchingto know that people are thinking about you and wishing you wellmeans a lot."
