Plea in Woodstock murder case put off until Oct. 29

A 19-year-old Woodstock man is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 29 to enter a plea on a charge of second-degree murder.

A 19-year-old man charged with murdering an 82-year-old woman appeared in Woodstock court on Thursday

A 19-year-old Woodstock man is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 29 to enter a plea on a charge of second-degree murder.

Kyle Edmund Scott is accused of killing Sarah Kennedy, 82, who was found deadin her Richmond Corner home on Oct. 5.

Scott made an appearance in provincial court in Woodstock on Thursday, but did not enter a plea. An adjournment was granted to allow defence attorney Ed Derrah time to review the case.

Some members of Kennedy's family attended Thursday's brief court appearance, including great-grandson Dylan Kennedy.

"We are making it through. That's about as best that I can tell you," he said.

"It's really too soon for us to be discussing this.This just happened, so really I think that's allI am going to say. No other comment."

The victim was well known in the area and is described as someone who would do anything for anybody.

Scott was arrested hours after Kennedy's body was discovered on Saturday and was charged with second-degree murder on Sunday.

Members of his family were also present in court on Thursday, including Roseanne Scott.

"We sympathize with Sarah Kennedy's family," she said. "Our hearts go out to them completely, but everybody's got to understand that he is our family and we are here for him."

RCMP have not disclosed the cause of death.

The accused remains remanded in custody.
