Sackville-area residents say flood waters higher Tuesday

The flooding in the Sackville area was no better when residents woke up on Tuesday morning, and in fact Gilles Beland says it had worsened overnight.

On Monday 650 people in the area were stranded because of flooded roads.

Beland, thegeneralmanager of BowserConstruction, which is located on Lorne Street, said in an interview on Information Morning Moncton on Tuesday that it's like "living in Venice."

"We're a little island at the mid-point of Lorne Street surrounded by a sand berm holding back the flood."

Beland says flooding is not uncommon, it last happened in Decemberand the problem is the town's inadequate infrastructure.

"We're just holding it back and hoping for it to go away," Beland said.

"With more rain tonight ... we're hoping to just hold our own for nowthat's all we can do."

Beland says one entrance to the construction yard is blocked, even with pumps running 24 hours a day.

"I'm looking at a lake outside my windowright now, the ball fields are just covered with water and so is the road and the curbside and parking lot."

CBC meteorologist Peter Coadesays more wet weather is expected over the next 24 hours.

"As far as amounts go, we could see 10 to 15 millimetres," Coade said.

He says there is alsothe possibility of a shower on Thursday but Friday, Saturday and Sunday should be sunny and dry.

The Town of Sackville says Lorne Street remains closed on Tuesday as does the intersection of Route 106 and Route 935.
