Body located Sunday after car drives off of ferry and into water in Kingston Peninsula

An RCMP underwater rescue team located a body Sunday after a car drove off a ferry that was not in operation and into the waterat the Gondola Point ferry terminalin theKingston Peninsula.

An RCMP underwater rescue team located abody Sunday after a car drove offa ferry that was not in operation and into the waterat the Gondola Point ferry terminalin theKingston Peninsula.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Johnston said the body was found inside the car at about 3 p.m. It is believed the person was the only occupant of the vehicle.

He said there is an ongoing investigation and there is no more information available at this point.

According to the RCMP, first responders attended a call that a vehicle had driven off one of the ferries and into the water before 9 p.m. Saturday.

The ferry service was shut downSaturday andSundaydue to an ongoing strike by some CUPEworkers in the province.
