Narwhal tusk exportation case adjourned

A New Brunswickcouple facing 28 charges connected to the possession and exportation of narwhal tusks must wait another month before they can enter pleas.

The case against Gregory Robert Logan, 54, and Nina Lorene Logan, 51, from Woodmans Point, near Grand Bay, was adjournedTuesday in St. Stephen provincial court.

The narwhal is a medium-sized whale that lives year-round in the Arctic.

Male narwhals havea single straight tuskthat can measure up to2.5 metres long.

Twenty-seven of the chargesallege that between September 2003 and August 2009, the Logansunlawfully transported narwhal tusks into St. Stephen.

The remaining charge alleges the pair knowingly possessed the animal parts with the purpose of exporting them from Canada.

The next court appearance for the Logans is scheduled for May 29.
