The Humanity Project prepares for winter campaign

A non-profit group says using coupons can help it fight poverty in Moncton.

The Humanity Project began collecting and delivering food and clothing to those in need last winter.

"In those bags is 18 boxes of cereal and two bags of oranges that we just paid $14 for," says Charlie Burrell, the group's founder.

He credits Ruth Ann Swansburg, known as the Moncton Coupon Lady, for helping him feed 33 families for $800.

Today, the Humanity Project is preparing for Project Winter Survival, which aims to help homeless people.

"Those are the people that don't go to the shelters, they're not going to the soup kitchens, not going to YMCA reconnect," he said.

"We can drop off a bag to one person and two minutes later, we're dropping off another. We just want to make sure that everybody who's roughing it over the winter months, we can give them a little something and help them out."

The Humanity Project invites people to the New Brunswick Community College in Moncton on Nov.22, to pack bags and sort items for Project Winter Survival.
