2 young people dead after separate off-road vehicle crashes

Recent incidents with off-road vehicles on the Acadian Peninsula have left two young New Brunswickers dead.

Two young New Brunswickers are dead following two separate off-road vehicle collisions onthe Acadian Peninsula this month.

In one incident, a 24-year-old man from Brantvilledied after a two-vehicle collision on July 14 nearHaut-Rivire-du-Portage, which is close to Tracadie-Sheila.

An RCMP release said the crash is believed to have happened when the victim, driving a dirt bike, collided head-on with a side-by-side.

Police were called to the scene around 1:20 a.m., and the man died the following day in hospital. The occupants of the side-by-side were unharmed, the release said.

In the second incident, an 18-year-old woman from Miscoudied in a single-vehicle crashin an all-terrain vehicle. The accident happened on July 12 on Highway 313 inPetite-Rivire-de-l'le, a community on LamqueIsland.

An RCMP release said police responded around 12:20 p.m. and the woman died at the scene. The release also said the accident is believedto have happened when the ATV was travelling at low speed when the driver lost control and hitthe ditch of the roadway.

Theidentities of the people who died in the two crashes were not released by police, and investigations are continuing.
