Weather delays lobster fishery opening in area 25

Lobster fishermen in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI won't be setting their traps Thursday as planned because of the wild weather forecasted for that day.

Lobster fishermen in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. won't be setting their traps Thursday as planned because of the wild weather forecast for that day.

The season inlobster fishing area25, which includes the waters from Pointe Sapin, N.B. to Pugwash, N.S. was supposed to begin Thursday at 6 a.m.AT.

But Michel Therien from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans says the start of the season will be delayed by one day, due to high-force gales, fog and showers.

"Because of the severe weather forecast predicted by Environment Canada it was in agreement by all that we should delay the fishery 24 hours," he said.

Roughly 850 boats will fish until Oct. 10.
